The NorthShore Run features the St. Luke’s Half Marathon and the Tunnel 10K. The half marathon runs along the scenic North Shore of Lake Superior, on a 13.1 mi point to point course. Enjoy the same spectacular route as the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon but take the interstate (I-35) for the last 4 miles of the race. During the St. Luke’s Wheels-Off, Half Marathon runners will go through the I-35 tunnels, completely unique to this event and drop down to the St. Louis Bay to finish alongside the famous William A. Irvin freighter as fans cheer you on.
The Tunnel 10k race route takes you through 6 tunnels of I-35 and will keep a spring in your step with live music. While most of the time if you are running or walking on an interstate, you are carrying an empty gas can, not during the Tunnel 10K! This closed course allows you to run on one of the most unique race routes in Minnesota. After experiencing the rare chance to race on an Interstate, you will continue alongside the St. Louis Bay to the finish line at the famous William A. Irvin, a retired lake freighter.
Join hundreds of other runners and enjoy the beauty of fall on the North Shore of Minnesota.

The course is an out and back with a twist – the highway is closed to traffic and you get to run through a series of three tunnels each way. Most of the time the scenery is nothing much – concrete, etc – but every now and then when you emerge from one of the tunnels you get some spectacular views of Lake Superior (at least for the first 3 miles).
Once you make your turn, the scenery fades as you’re now heading southbound on the highway and won’t have much to look at until the last mile when you turn towards the Duluth harbor and finally finish near the William A Irvin – a retired (and now museum) great lakes freighter.

Running the NorthShore St. Lukes Half Marathon, I did not know what to expect as it was my first half marathon but I have to say that it blew me away. Not only was the race gorgeous, but also well put together and an extremely fun group of people to run with and compete. If you are in Duluth Minnesota or want to take a beautiful trip to the NorthShore, do it! A great half marathon in Duluth!
Great event for runners of all skills!

My first time at this race – it was a wet and rainy day, but that didn’t stop the runners. Didn’t stop the inline skaters either as this race is one of many events going on under the Northshore Inline Marathon weekend banner – there are half, 10k for runners and also inline skate events going on.
The course is an out and back through the tunnels in Duluth. Get some peaks of Lake Superior and a close up of the harbor near the finish line too.
I hit my PB on this race recovering from an injury!

Second time doing this race. It is so fun to run thru the tunnels on a freeway – I35! The course is an out and back so he run thru the tunnels twice. There are a few challenging long uphills, up to the turnaround spot and near the end going up a couple ramps to get off the freeway. The views of a Lake Superior are beautiful as usual. The shirt (soft unisex tee have run very large the two years I’ve done it) and medal are great. Plenty of post race food and drink. Downside: This race is part of the inline skate races too so the expo before and after are pretty much all focused on skating. So that is disappointing for all of the runners. I wish there was more for runners, there are a lot of us as there as there is a 10k and a Half for runners. Other than that I highly recommend this race.
