If you are used to running at night on single-track horse trails, or you’re an accomplished trail runner, you would probably enjoy this race. For those of us who are NOT the above, it was tough! The race was well organized by Trail Racing Over Texas and had great swag, and the camaraderie among the runners was great, which made it an overall good experience. But running in the dark, even with flashlights, was hard, so I had to stick with other runners throughout. It was in early August, so it was still extremely hot and humid, even at night. And the single track horse trails had a lot of sand (especially in the first 7 miles), making the sledding tough. Fortunately, my only goal was to finish (to cross TX off my 50 state list), so mission accomplished…and I still made some new friends!
