Oh my goodness what a beautiful race course. Muir woods was amazing. Views were so pretty. The climbs were great and amazing! Very fun challenge. Choose this as my first 50K. I had unusual calf cramps at mile 16 which threw a wrench into my run! I was planning a 7 hr 15 min finish at most and finished 7 hr 55 min. But I dragged my butt to the end. I want to repeat this course again. Totally worth it because it was amazing. Highly recommend. Inside trail puts on great events. This is my second one by them. I’ll be looking at their other races.

Parts of the course are on the infamous Dipsea Trail as you’re climbing all over Mt. Tam and the race starts and finishes at Stinson Beach. There is a lot of elevation in this race, but it’s incredibly scenic. You get some great views of the Bay Area and the ocean. It’s not easy and you definitely earn your medal. The last few miles are downhill, but make sure you don’t slip on the wood stairs.

This race company takes really good care of you from start to finish. Bib pickup pre race is smooth, the aid stations are well stocked and they had good at the end, in addition to getting pizzas.

This was my first time at Mt. Tam and despite the poison oak I got all over my legs, I plan to go back!

I ran the half marathon here in the middle of a very nasty cold and with poor training. It’s fair to say that I suffered greatly as a result. It’s also fair to say that it was the most beautiful race I’ve ever run.
‘Race’ is overstating it. I went into this with the sole aim of enjoying the beauty and that goal was totally achieved. Steep Ravine Trail will crush your soul in one respect but it will make your soul soar in another. The two climbs are tough – the first one has you with jelly legs by M3, the second is much less steep but goes on forever. And the final 3 mile descent back would be wonderful if your quads weren’t so trashed you had no confidence they’d hold you up on the half-mile or so of steps.
If you train for this and if you’re healthy however, it will be one of the best runs you ever do.
Inside Trail are faultless in their work – signposting was excellent, the aid station well stocked (with coke) and the medal was particularly nice!
I had a great day. I had an awful day. I am so glad I did it. You should do it too.
