The Motor Motor 5k, hosted by Clayton County Conservation in partnership with the Turkey River Recreational Corridor, takes advantage of the outstanding trails surrounding the Motor Mill historic site to create an incredible event. Competitive runners will find a unique race experience. A route combining firebreaks, singletrack and horse trails through rugged terrain make for a challenging but enjoyable course. Less experienced runners and walkers will find a setting where the journey truly is the goal. Few races boast such a blend of the naturally beautiful and historically fascinating.
But make no mistake, this is a true trail run – hills, mud and/or ice, roots, and rocks mean you need to keep an eye on your footing. While we do our best with course direction and marking, paying close attention to the course map before the starting gun will help minimize any wrong turns. If you can run your personal best on this course, our hats go off to you.
Whether you’re looking for a good tune-up for the summer racing season, a race that’s easier on the knees than pounding pavement, or just a beautiful setting for an endorphin rush on a Saturday, the Motor Motor 5k has got what you need to welcome the coming spring.
And this year, we’ve got something special planned. The Motor Mill historic site celebrates its 150th anniversary in 2020, and the Motor Motor 5K celebrates its 5th anniversary. So in addition to our usual prize bounty, we’re offering up $150 for a new course record under 20:20.
For this year’s commemorative item, each participant will take home a beautiful stoneware coffee mug including the iconic visage of the mill itself.
In other words, we’ve got goodies for the speed demons and slowpokes alike, so come one come all and let’s make this year the biggest one yet!
This year’s proceeds will go towards the construction & maintenance of the ~5 mile multi-use trail connecting the town of Elkader to the Motor Mill Historic Site.
