2020 EVENT WILL BE VIRTUAL ONLY (Oct 17–Nov 11).
***
The Mike Hike 5K Run/Walk is an annual event honoring PFC Michael Olivieri. Friends and family of Mike Olivieri have joined forces with the Homer Glen Foundation to preserve the memory of this hometown hero who tragically lost his life while serving in Iraq on June 6, 2011. Proceeds raised through this event will commemorate our local heroes while supporting improvements to our community trails and parks.
Mike Olivieri spent most of his life growing up in Homer Glen. He attended Goodings Grove Elementary School, Homer Jr. High, and Lockport High School before attending Southern Illinois University and later joining the United States Army. His life was filled with a loving family and close friends who shared his affinity for music and laughter. He will always be remembered for his quick wit, keen sense of humor and above all – a big heart.
Established in 2004, the Homer Glen Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the acquisition and improvement of public parks, trails, and open spaces. The Homer Glen Foundation partners with local government agencies and local non-profit youth and community organizations to complete capital improvement projects.
The Homer Glen Foundation was selected as a recipient of the Homer Glen Community & Nature Award in 2012 and 2013 for its efforts with the Mike Hike and support of the Homer Glen Heroes Trail.
