Bring your off-road running shoes, as the Miakonda course is trail-rated, with a small amount on a wide, smooth, paved path around camp, operations and dining/cabin facilities. Visualize the route before your arrive — watch the course video to see it first-hand from the runner’s perspective.
Camp Miakonda at the DeVilbiss Scout Reservation is a 160 acre resident-type facility and is the 6th oldest Boy Scout camp in the United States. Thirteen rustic cabins are available for you to rent on race day, and a large parade field and ancillary areas are available to setup camp and personal aid stations. Four Adirondack sites (3-sided buildings), tent camping sites, a pool, lake (with fishing), chapel, indoor dining hall (with food service operation), Trading Post, Historical Museum, marked historical trail, and a Frontier Fort are all on-premises and accessible along the course.

The course is a 2.36 mile loop through a Boy Scout campground, with mixed paved path and wide groomed trail through some pretty woods. A couple of short, moderate climbs, but for the most part very easy running. You can drop your gear in the start/finish area, and there’s a full-service aid station at the halfway point of the loop. Crews can set up at several places along the path.
Pros: Pretty course. Fantastic support, with plenty of ice on a hot day, iced towels, and even sno-cones. Good vibes from staff, crews, and spectators. Trail was well-marked at night with glow sticks. Lots of motivational signs (see my race report for a couple examples).
Cons (minor): The swag is almost too much – shirt, hoodie, bottle, and finisher plaque. Would’ve preferred a lower entry fee with optional shirt, etc.
Great run, Great Support!

The course was runnable, mostly dirt trail with a section of asphalt making a 2.36 mile loop. Tree roots on the course were highlighted with paint. Course marked with glow sticks at night. Site was fogged the day before which kept the mosquitoes at bay. One fully stocked main aid station and a secondary station with water and Gatorade at the starting line. Course is mainly shaded going through a wooded area. Showers and restrooms are available as well as the opportunity to book a cabin. Otherwise setup your own stop along the parade field. Laps were updated live on runsignup. Medical support on course. Staff was excellent, made for an enjoyable run.
