This race has been on my interest list for about four years now, but I always failed to register for it. But this year the 50 State Half Marathon club selected it to be the annual meet up. I also have never attended a 50 State Half Marathon meet up even though I joined in 2010. I have been a slacker and thought attending this would bring back my motivation and allow me to check off a race that has been on my to-do list for a while (plus a new state).

The race production was great. The Race Director was in attendance Saturday at the meet up banquet and I enjoyed his enthusiasm. Hearing the people who ran the Saturday race I was excited to go. It was a bit, okay a lot, colder than I expected, but I improvised and was warm enough. There was a large crowd for the run, most of them fellow club members so it really created a great atmosphere. The race was flat and would be fast if I were still in shape. Basically a walking/bike trail along the banks of the Rio Grande river (which really wasn’t so grande). As the day warmed up it was a very pleasant running experience. Two laps on an up-and-back pavement; fairly straightforward. The little bridges were a bit slippery in the morning, but by the second lap they were fine.

Great job to Clint for hosting a wonderful event. He got us ready to go with a pre-race talk to explain the course and it was a fun day. I am glad I attended. Oh, and a bonus months ago – I originally signed up for the race but neglected the discount code. He applied that and sent me a refund check. I had an old address listed so it was returned to him. He wrote me again to get the new address and resent it back to me. A lot of time and commitment hunting me down for $15. Much appreciated that he took the time to do that.
