Madeline Island Marathon & Half Marathon registration will be limited to 150 in the full and 300 in the half. Courses will be point to point with one section of out and back in each race. Courses are mostly pavement with a section of packed gravel road in each race.
Both courses will be USATF certified and are point-to-point with short out-and-back portions and the full is a Boston Qualifier. The courses are mainly paved roadway with approximately 3 to 4 miles of gravel road. The courses will be well-marked, but is open to traffic and runners will be restricted to one side of the road. There will be volunteers and law enforcement at some intersections, but we recommend running single file and music devices are discouraged. Aid stations will be approximately every 2 to 3 miles and will have both water and Gatorade available at each station. Porta-potties will be available at the start/finish and at various points along the course.
Marathon #WI17014DM
Half Marathon #WI17013DM
We recommend that all runners arrive on the island on Friday and stay for the weekend!

Relatively flat course on an island in the middle of Lake Superior. Minor distance run on gravel and long, sloping hill toward the end of the half marathon course (of which I was oblivious but had pointed out to me by racer who is a relative). This race is well-organized and runs (both operationally and as a racer) smoothly in gorgeous scenery!
Beautiful and well organized!
Beautiful coarse. Great volunteers. Great post race food. Great finisher “medals.” What’s there not to love. Will be back and so will my fellow running buddies. MORE

The scenery is honestly second to none. Great course support, well organized. The medals are like nothing I’ve ever seen and have earned a front & center place on display. The only race I’ve taken a ferry ride to! I’ve ran it twice now, and I’ll be back. Merch & swag are top-notch!
