The Long Hunter Trail Runs race series is all within Long Hunter State Park, a few miles outside the Nashville city limits. All race distances circumnavigate Couchville Lake, go out and back on the Bryant Grove trail and do the Inland trail with its cliff trail loop. The marathon and 50k courses also go out to do different lengths of the Jones Mill trail, with the 50k doing the full trail loop in that area of the park. We start and finish in a beautiful, wide-open field that often has deer and turkeys strolling through.
On a side note, this is our home trail! Emily and I (Scott) live four miles from the park and go here all the time. We’re really happy we get to showcase this area to people. It’s beautiful and makes for a pretty fast, flat race.
The course is a mix of trail and paved trail/asphalt. The 2-mile trail that goes around Couchville Lake is a paved, greenway type trail. The only other non-dirt areas are the roads connecting the other trails together.
These trails are quite flat and are only mildly technical. You could be fine with road shoes if it doesn’t rain right before the race.
We will not be sweeping the course and removing people who are behind cutoff. We want everyone to enjoy the park even if they don’t have their best day. However, if you finish after cutoff, you will not receive an official finish or finisher award.
Aid stations are VERY plentiful on this course. The longest carries are 5.1 miles in the 50k, 5.3 miles in the marathon and 4 miles in the half. You are required to have a way to carry or drink water. There are no cups at the aid stations.
Crews/Friends are only allowed to provide assistance at the Couchville and Bryant Grove aid stations. While you have access to Jones Mill and the Inland parking areas, and are encouraged to go anywhere you want to cheer them on, do not assist your runners outside of the two designated aid stations spots or your runner will be disqualified. Keep it fair for everyone.
50k runners are allowed a drop bag at the Bryant Grove aid station.

Really well pleased for a first time event. Race director cared immensely about each finisher and their story. Luckily I didn’t get lost but some people did and the director got his way on the course that day to help and make it better. Huge huge props to that. The arrowhead award was also extra special and unique. Beautiful course. Great post race and during race food. Only issues was with being told I would get a shirt no problem and wasn’t able to get my size but it happens. Atleast I got one!
