A new kind of event with something for every one and every ability. The Leavenworth Mai BlumenLauf (May Flower Run) features a fun family style 5k to benefit Cascade Medical Foundation, a Two circuit 10k and a Four circuit half marathon – all right through the heart of Leavenworth’s downtown and its riverfront trails. All races will start and finish on Front Street near the Gazebo in downtown Leavenworth. Leavenworth is Washington’s “Bavarian Village” located 2.5 hours east of the Puget Sound region and borders the Wenatchee/Okanogan National Forest and the Alpine Lakes Wilderness Area. Packed with charm, year-round annual events, great food, unique tours & attractions, activities, and a range of accommodations, the Bavarian village of Leavenworth, Washington delivers a memorable mountain escape. Leavenworth’s location nestled in the picturesque Cascade Mountains also offers an abundance of recreation options for every season. It’s an experience that will leave you saying, Holy Schnitzel! Leavenworth hosts a May celebration each year called “Maifest” with music, dancing, food and activities for children and adults all month long. A great race will add to your unique experience in Leavenworth, especially on Mother’s Day! It’s a perfect event for the whole family and a great way to celebrate Mom.

This was one of the prettiest races I did, The mountains in the background were gorgeous, the volunteers were SUPER FRIENDLY and supportive and I felt the race was run well. The main downfall this was over 4 loops, very hard to cross the finish 4 times and only the 5th time counts! The trail was well maintained and easy to run!
It did have 2 pretty big hills to climb for each loop, but they were a “challenge” and were doable. I almost didn’t want to run because there were only 9 runners (probably since it was not well advertised and first year doing the half) so that made me very intimidated being a slower (2:17) runner. The town was so cute and the weather was on the warm side, so the trail portion that was shaded was VERY welcomed as well as pretty. I hope word gets out that this is a nice race, I would have enjoyed it much more if I wasn’t the 2nd to last person to finish the half! (and I hope they change the course so that it is not looping so many times!!! NOT a fan of loops! You don’t get a medal, you get a cowbell, but it is on a neck ribbon, so it added to my collection nicely. Tshirts were optional, which I liked because I do not usually wear the ones that are “free” and I like that they donate the proceeds! I felt there were definitely enough water/electrolyte stops (and Gu)

I did the half marathon which was 4.1 laps – an absolutely pleasure to run along the Wenatchee River and catch breathtaking views of the Cascade Mountains and Enchantments along the way. On the return route, run up two short but steep hills into and through the delightful Bavarian town of Leavenworth. It was such a friendly race, ran exceptionally smoothly, well supported and donates to a worthy cause! Afterwards, you have your pick of local breweries to grab a pint and catch those stellar views while recovering. Leavenworth is one of those places everyone should visit at least once. Makes for a great race-cation!
