The Lake Norman State Park Trail Race offers two options, a 30K and 50K length event. Both events will offer a 10-hour cut off time with three aid stations. This race consists of smooth rolling single track trails with no repeat loops! Whether this is your first trail race, or your looking to set a PR, you will love this course!
Course Description
30K Runners: You will start at the main parking lot, then proceed and enter Laurel Loop, cross over Wildlife Road to enter Wildlife Loop, Fallstown Loop, and Fox Loop. Once these loops are complete you will cross back over Wildlife Road to complete the remaining section of Laurel Loop before returning back to the start/finish line at the main parking lot. All loops will be completed in clockwise direction, opposite way of bike traffic. The 30K course has approximately 1,500 feet of elevation gain.
50K Runners: You will start and race with the 30K runners along the same route, then you will continue on to Hawk Loop, Monbo Loop, Norwood Creek Loop and Hicks Creek Loop before returning back to the finish line at the main parking lot. All loops will be completed in clockwise direction, opposite way of bike traffic. The 50K course has approximately 2,200 feet of elevation gain.
Aid Stations
There will be three fully stocked aid stations serving water, Mountain Dew, Coke, Ginger Ale, and Tailwind. Food will also be available at all aid stations. Food will consist of sandwiches, cookies, oranges, bananas, Hammer Gels, chips, and other snacks. Aid station # 1 will be located near the parking lot at the start/finish line and will be set up after the start of the race. Aid station # 2 will be located at the entrance and exit of Wildlife Loop (all distances will pass this aid station twice). Aid station #3 will be located on the 50K course close to Monbo Loop (50K runners will pass this aid station twice). Hot tea, pizza, and soup will be waiting for you at the finish line!
Awards
All participants who complete the entire duration of their selected event will receive a special finishers metal when they cross the finish line. There will be special awards for 1st place overall male and female for both events. All results will be posted to UltraSignup and Ultrarunning Magazine.
Photos
Pictures will be taken on the course during the race and at the finish line. A link including all photos taken during the event will be emailed to all registered runners the following week of the race.

This race delivered what it said. “ smooth rolling single track trails with no repeat loops so you will never see the same thing twice! Whether this is your first trail race, or your looking to set a PR, you will love this course! ”. I did love the course and the production. Even camber single track, with fewer than normal rocks and roots, and thanks to many sandy soil stretches, less muddy than it could have been. It was high 30s and overcast at the start, with rain on and off, and eventually got maybe to 50 – pretty good running weather.
The aid stations were well spaced, staffed, and stocked. The trail was very well marked, the pre-race talk helpful and fun. This race delivered on all levels. If it is dry weather next year, I would like to go back and run the 50k.
Swag was a good quality long sleeve tech shirt and the medal and ribbon way above average. The indoor restroom facilities never had a line out the door. Statesville nearby is a good place to stay and Troutman in between had an family owned since the late 60s burger pace for some post race treats – although the finish line quesadillas and pizza were good and plentiful.
