I signed up for this race after the trail race I originally signed up for in April was canceled last minute due to weather. Pretty honorable for the folks at Blaze to offer a race credit for the cancelation – race production companies do NOT have to do that and most probably wouldn’t.
First trail race for me. I like to run through the woods so that part appealed, but it had rained the night before the race and the mud was a SIGNIFICANT issue. I don’t mean it was like a little mud here and there. I mean there were long stretches of deep, sinking mud that required slow and careful walking. There was a lot of running, stopping, walking, slipping, and then running again. I guess by the end it just got kind of old. The poor folks running the 100 miler!
GREAT race production though. Super friendly people and I absolutely LOVE the race shirts (FINALLY, not another tech shirt). And no sponsorships on the back! A shirt I can actually wear.
When it comes down to it, I’m just not sure trail racing is my thing. There were multiple times during the race I had the thought “Is this even fun?” But I do love being in the trees and the race was put on well, so I’m sure I’ll return for another at some point. Definitely with Blaze. Salt of the Earth, those people.
