1. Course difficulty: The course is pretty much all flat and is actually slightly downhill overall, has only one pace-slowing turn, and is run on wide roads with plenty of horizontal wiggle room. 2. Course scenery: There are no Swiss Alps in the background and it’s not a run through the world-famous tourist attractions of Paris, but the Irish countryside makes for pleasant and peaceful scenery and the air is fresh. 3. Race production: The race is timed to allow arrivers via the train from Dublin to walk or jog to the start line before the gun, and they’ll even meet runners at the station to give them their race pack and store any personal belongings. The only flaw in the organization of the 2018 run was not making it clear where the postrace assembly area was, since a ways away from the finish line. 4. Race swag: The shirt is unique for it’s pattern and colors (two colors stitched together), and the medal is pretty. 5. Overall rating: On a scale of 1 to 5, 1 being “never again” and 5 “can’t wait for next year,” this is a 4 when considering convenient access with public transportation, high PR probability course, pleasant but not spectacular scenery, and confusion about where to go from the finish line.
