Run in one of the most beautiful parks in the United States. Kensington Metropark is home to an 8.5 mile continuous run/walk/bike trail that circles Kent Lake. Come see why so many area runners train regularly here. The park also features a small farm, equestrian area, nature center, boat rental, … MORE

Awesome race production! Scenic course that wasn't too difficult. Aid stations were stacked with all the basics and great volunteers. Shirt... was not the coolest. But a great time. MORE

This run was easily in the top five of most scenic races for me; perhaps even first. The night before the area had heavy rain and a tornado that touched down just a few miles away. I knew the course ran through the woods, and I was expected muddy trails and wind damage following the storms. Therefore I decided to just take it slow and see what happened. As it turned out the course was almost completely on a paved bike path through the rooms. An early start included a bit of fog, cooler temperatures, and several bird encounters (turkeys, cranes, geese, ducks, and swans). There were also several frogs that could be heard in the surrounding ponds.

The course was easy and nearly flat with the exception of a few slight inclines, especially on the back of the lake. None were large enough to call a hill. We began at the start, ran two and a half miles out, then turned around and went back to the start before completing one loop around the lake. The trees were and grasses were green the wildlife prowling about, and people in boats enjoying the lake (fishing, swan boats, and paddle boats). As the morning progressed, the temperature quickly increased. By the end it was very warm. They offered a 5K, 10K, half, full, and a 50K. They allowed early starts so you could start when you wanted and there were always people around on the course.

I highly recommend this course because it was well organized, excellent communication, and the amazing scenery. The shirt, medal and the coaster (with bottle opener) was very nice as well.

This one sounds really nice and is within driving distance for me for a weekend trip. I will definitely look into it if I have the weekend off next summer

The week before this race my wife and I ran Xenia which was an urban race. This race was in a park and while there were play ground there was this well maintained bike path around a lake. I took the early start while my wife prefered the late one. There we were at the start laid out like a checker board with our 5 second delayed start so we were quite dispersed from the first wave of the hand. Around the lake 4 time it was. I found the early morning in Michigan to be prefect for running it was fairly easy to knock off the first two laps… however the sun came out and I was longing for shade on certain parts of the course. I checked at an aid station, to see if there was enough water to douse myself and off again to run. And of course there was a great medal at the finish. Didn’t get to talk a lot but a lot of my running was around those buddies from Maniacs and Mainly? So easy peasy but not to friendly.
