Beach to Battleship
Come explore North Carolina’s most accessible coastal destination flowing with energy and history. Wilmington has been highly praised for its charming small-town appeal, Tarheel Southern Hospitality, rich history, beautiful beaches, and locally caught seafood. The scenic, iconic course at IRONMAN 70.3 North Carolina starts beachside at Wrightsville Beach and ends across from the city’s most attention-grabbing attraction—the immense Battleship North Carolina. Bring on the views, the PR’s, the first-time finishers, and unforgettable memories here in Carolina.
Nothing could be finer than a PR in Carolina.
Swim
The ROKA swim course is staged at Wrightsville Beach and will be a unique point-to-point layout with a wave start. The swim takes place in a channel that is connected to the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway—it’s a saltwater swim, but not in the ocean. An incoming tide with athletes swimming with the current will provide fast splits for the 1.2-mile course. The water temperature will be in the upper 60’s to low 70’s Fahrenheit—perfect for wetsuit use.
Bike
Cruise from the beach to the countryside during this 56 mile ride. This flat and fast bike course will guide you on a picturesque ride along rural country roads before crossing the Cape Fear River on your return to town. A point to point bike course that finishes near the beautiful riverfront of historic downtown Wilmington.
Run
Take in all of the views as you make your way along this scenic 1-loop, 13.1-mile journey. This run course will feature a “hot corner” where your fans can see you 4-5 times within the first mile. Carolina calls you home to one of the original finish lines of this race featuring an amazing view of the USS North Carolina, located in the heart of downtown Wilmington.

From the time I got into Wilmington Thursday my nervousness begin calm down. Get there early to do the practice swim on Thursday less people and gives u plenty of time Friday to go T1 and T2 to drop off bike and running shoes.
Yes T1 and T2 are in to different locations and Family not able to come to swim start due to parking. But there was giant screen TV showing the swim start.
Fast swim with current.
Director, staff and voluntary’s were awesome from start to finish.
Fast, Fabulous and Fun!

Great course, starting with a very fast and scenic swim in a calm salt water bay with a pushing current that’s ideal for first-timers and experienced athletes looking to nail their fastest 70.3 swim split. Mostly flat bike course, albeit with too much illegal drafting, then a great run with a mix of sun and shade. Nice downtown T2 and finish area. Excellent support and good logistics with many reasonably priced hotel options for travelers. I’ll definitely return here to race and recommend it to my friends.
