Golden beaches and incredible beauty
Known for its beautiful location at the “Costa del Maresme” and its distinctive lighthouse landmark, Calella is a tourism and sport hotspot. Its golden beaches and mild climate offers a playground for triathlon enthusiasts, with the race offering a great early season challenge thanks to its beautiful sea swim, a bike course that tests your fitness, and a flat run course along the Calella beachfront.
Swim
The one-loop 1.9 km (1.2 mile) swim course starts on the beach of Calella and takes athletes into the Mediterranean Sea and in a clockwise circle before they exit the water near the swim start.
Bike
The one-loop 90 km (56 mile) bike course starts in Calella and leads along the coast. It heads inland before returning to transition back in Calella. The course offers an exciting challenge combining some fast and flat coastal sections with challenging ascents.
Run
The two-loop 21.1 km (13.1 mile) run starts at Calella Beach and follows the shore of the Mediterranean Sea to the turnaround at Pineda de Mar. The course is flat and scenic with the Mediterranean forming the backdrop to one side and the city of Calella to the other.

This was my first IM70.3 race and not exactly a very smart decision if you have not trained well. The weather and the environment was incredible. Calella is a very small city in Catalonia that has been part of this event for many years so that people transmit enthusiasm while you compete.
Swimming is great! probably one of the best things about this triathlon because the Mediterranean is like a huge because pool that barely has waves.
The bicycle, oh the bicycle … This is definitely something for which you must prepare and train on your hills. Catalunya is a beautiful place with vegetation, great wetaher, and beautiful beaches. The bike part starts in callela city and you start climbing for about 20km-30km with an altitude of sea level to 600m above sea level. This part is important not to empty the tank and save energy for the running part. The downhill is amazing, very fast and somehow technical where you can reach a speed of 70-80km per hour.
The running part is completely flat and right next to the beach. This was a part that I really enjoyed and with an amazing crowd who really love this event.
