The Horseshoe Bend Obstacle Course Race is situated next to the iconic Horseshoe Bend landmark. Started to give OCR racers more than just a course to race on. With the amazing scenery, landscape, and all the things to do, Horseshoe Bend OCR is truly a RACECATION.

Beautiful scenery and ultimately that’s the reason we chose to run this race. Course well marked which was important on this vast open area. Obstacles were TOUGH! There were many we could not complete, but we did try all of them. We knew going in we wouldn’t be able to complete all the obstacles. We were there for the scenery and to run in a cool destination. The obstacles for us were just bonuses.
However, so many “issues” with this race!
1. Website says course is 4+ miles. The course was 7.5 miles! That’s a BIG difference and for some that difference could even be dangerous especially if there were weather issues such as heat. We just ran 26.2 miles in March so not an issue for us, but you can’t advertise a 4 miler and have an event almost double that.
2. We inquired about water obstacles at the start line. The announcer said no water obstacles and no issue taking phones. Someone else asked the same question. Guess what? We had a water obstacle. We bypassed it, but this should have been disclosed. There was also no one at the water obstacle and we were not sure what the obstacle actually was?
3. Several obstacles were unattended. This created a safety issue in my opinion. There were 2 pole walks/balance beams on the course and neither had anyone manning them. Both those obstacles if you “fail” you are falling to the ground and easily could hit your head, turn an ankle, etc…… It’s not just a matter of oh I couldn’t lift that heavy weight. You would have just laid there until the next person happened upon you.
4. Registration was $110/person. Finish line was a bottle of water & a banana. Nothing else. ????
5. I registered for an XS shirt. They didn’t have XS shirts. if you have sign up for a size, you need to have that size. It wasn’t a matter of they ran out. They just didn’t have XS.
6. Only unisex shirts and small was the smallest. Women who participate in these events are often petite because we work out. Unisex shirts don’t work and certainly need a size below small.
7. Names were on the back of the shirt, but they missed several participant names including mine.
8. Original communication had said packet pick up day before race from 4-7 or something like that. That changed and no clear communication regarding this. Ended up being same day before the race started.
9. Responding to email inquiries didn’t happen. At one point they sent a mass email indicating we’re now to busy to respond to emails due to course changes we made. ??????? Several months before the race I contacted them with questions and it took WEEKS for them to respond.
10. The Facebook link on their website doesn’t work. Facebook page wasn’t updated after Nov 2024 and race was Apr 2025. ???
Some of these items in and of themself are not a big deal (other than incorrect course distance). However, when you compile them all togehter and consider this is not a first time event they made for a race that truly has room for improvement.
Beautiful course. Glad we came from out of town to do the event.
