This race benefits the Denver Children’s Museum, where the course starts and ends. The volunteers and race staff were especially nice. In addition to the 5K, there was a toddler trot and an infant crawl. The swag bag included Acli-Mate mountain sports drink; but, this Cali girl didn’t see it until after the race…tough finish. This was also my first exposure to a non-disposable timing chip. It goes and your shoe and you must return it to avoid a fine/additional charge. There were lots of vendors giving out good stuff (including toothbrushes and samples of Noosa yogurt…yum). The racers’ refreshments were good and the award ceremony was nice. One thing that I liked and had never seen was that, just before the race, the emcee solicited advice from the entrants, do’s and dont’s while on the course. Most of the advice came from kids who had come to run. The emcee even called some kids by name. The 1st and 3rd place finishers in the overall female category were mother and daughter, respectively. I got the sense that these folks were part of a tight running community. As a Californian on vacation, I was glad to have participated.
