The Hobbs War Eagle was established in 2010 and has grown to become the biggest trail race in the state of Arkansas. This acclaimed and award-winning event allows both beginner and veteran runners the opportunity to experience the beauty of the largest state park in Arkansas. Proceeds from the race are donated to the Friends of Hobbs and the Lions Club Scholarship Fund.
The Hobbs War Eagle Trail Races began back in 2006 as a 10 mile trail race with a couple dozen participants. During the first few years the event was known as the Hobbs Tail Twister benefiting the Rogers Lions Club. We are grateful for the continued growth and support from our runners and are proud of having donated more than $100,000 to the Rogers Lions Club and the Friends of Hobbs. Each year we strive to make it just a little better than the year before. The trails at Hobbs are among the most “runnable” in NW Arkansas. Not too technical or steep. Perfect for first time trail racers or veterans wanting to cover the trails as fast as possible. We love Hobbs, love our event and love our runners. We encourage you to come out and join for some fun at Hobbs SP.
Hobbs State Park is Arkansas’ largest state park and is on land that is the ancestral home of the Osage, Choctaw, Quawpaw and later the Cherokee. The First Nations sustainably lived on this land for thousands of years. We acknowledge and respect their sacred bond with this land.

Overall Rating: Excellent.
Course Difficulty: This course is moderately technical, but was very hard. Lots of elevation gain for a 50k and plenty of rocks, roots, and water crossings. It rained a couple of inches the night before, so our feet were wet from 100 yards in through the end of the race.
Course scenery: Good. Nearly all in shaded forest. Some views of creeks, lakes, and waterfalls.
Race Production: Fantastic.
Delayed start due to weather, boondock camping the night before, race morning late packet pick-up. Race course was mark excellent and there were volunteers posted at each confusing place. Something that I hadn’t heard at many (maybe any) other ultras was a constant stream of participants who were scared of lightning…I can definitely see that if we were above the tree line, but where we were, meh.
Race Swag: Nice shirt, free photos, nice medal.
My Performance: This race was really hard for me, just the amount of power it took wore me out. I was planning on 7:30 finish and came in really close to that, so all good. I was able to get in the truck and drive 8hrs home afterward so it didn’t take everything I had, but I was tired.
Final notes: This is a true ultra. Lots of water crossings, crazy steep hills, rocks and roots everywhere. Great race if you want to try your hand at an above average difficulty race.
Fun and beautiful course!

I have only done a handful of trail races but this was by far the best one and one I will definitely be doing next year! Beautiful weather, beautiful scenery. Trails were well kept. The aid stations were spectacular. While road races will alway be my preferences, I am starting to really enjoy the trails!
