HOWDY Friends! The “Run fer the Kids” offers not only a 5K and 10K, but also a HALF MARATHON! So, pick your distance and join in beautiful downtown Pikeville at the Pikeville City Park, while you enjoy Kentucky’s 2nd largest festival, Hillbilly Days.
The first half of the half (the 10K portion) will all be on pavement/sidewalks and in the downtown area of Pikeville. Those who elect to do the half marathon will get to enjoy some “off-roading” and become a true “Hillbilly”, because part of this route will take you through one of our beautiful trails. There will be challenging inclines, but there is no “hiking” type of terrain. The entire hill route is a wide path and is either paved or gravel.
Each participant will receive a t-shirt or tank top and a UNIQUE medal. The medal will be the second in a series of medals to celebrate the inaugural half marathon. Each subsequent year, the medals will be a different member of the Hillbilly family, with the first medal being the Hillbilly Momma. The race will be timed, so hit the pavement at a nice and easy pace, or run yer hiney off! A kids fun run (it’s free) and a 2 mile walk will be offered as well.

This is held in conjunction with Hillbilly Days, which you should try to experience the day before the race. The course has one large hill, but it leads to an awesome rolling trail and some pretty views so it’s worth it. The shirt is decent, and the medal is one of my favorites. The organization of the race is exceptional, the organizers are quick to respond to questions and want to be accommodating. I’d do it every year if it wasn’t so far from home. The medal this year is “hillbilly mama” with reticulated arms that have magnets on the back so they will be able to hold hands with next year’s medal. Not kidding!
This is a nice race
