Mitchell South Dakota has a long history of putting on charity 5Ks, but most of them that I have participated in were organized by non-runners that didn’t know the standards expected of a race. This one was an exception, however. The race director was a runner that knows how to run a real race, but was walker friendly too. Registration was smooth, the course was well marked with arrows at all of the turns, and most importantly, it was timed. Swag included a cloth swag bag, a towel with a logo, two coupons for a small ice cream cone from Dairy Queen, and a finisher’s medal. The weather was beautiful, and they didn’t abandon any slower runners on the course. I hope they keep up the high standards that they have set this year in the future, as I plan on doing it again.
