Small (~60 full runners) but well organized from packet pickup to race end. Aid stations were well-supported by very nice people. It is technical enough but not enough to require trail shoes (I ran in ASICS Cumulus road shoes). The only thing–the tapes indicating the way could be a bit better placed–I had to stop a number of times to figure out where the tapes were and was often wondering if I were going the right way….

Beautiful setting for this race, in the hills to the west of Bend. Weather was perfect for the 2023 edition, but since it was extremely dry, the first couple of kilometres of the trail were very dusty. The dust kicked up by the hundred or so runners ahead of me made it appear foggy.
There is a long section, maybe four or five kilometres, in the later part of the race that is on wide open gravel/dirt roads. This section was fairly easy. The final couple of kilometres was more difficult, not due to hills, but a stretch of more technical and single track trails.
Swag: Quality T-shirt, and the beer was flowing post race!
