My wife and I started running Grit last year and came back this year for a second year. The course and obstacles are challenging, but super fun. The race is set up and run extremely well, aid stations are packed with lots of goodies, and the swag and festival area is rockin. I ran both the Claw Competitive (8.5-mile) and Fang Open (5.5-mile) this year and loved both.

Whether you’re a seasoned racer or just dipping your toe into Obstacle/trail racing, Grit OCR is 10/10 worth a go!

This was my first time running here after doing about 15 Spartan races. The course had gorgeous scenery (even though it was overcast, which was great for running) and the obstacles were well placed and challenging. All the runners were supportive on the course even in the competitive heat. I like the middle distance (longer than 10k, but not a 21k) and the elevation was just enough to make the race a struggle, but not miserable. I will definitely be back next year and will do both distances.

It was challenging and tested my mental and physical toughness. It was warm so it made it a bit harder. Fun obstacles. Lots of hills. During the race, I questioned myself why I sign up for things like that. After the race was over, I was already planning how I’m going to train to do it again next year! 💪 it was challenging but fun!

This was my 3rd GRIT OCR that I had the privilege of doing, and it was my favorite to date. I thought it was so creative and clever that they included a puzzle obstacle and also an egg carry for our long run. I was grateful they had ice water to sponge &/or spray over us to help with the heat. I also liked having hydration in addition to water and the assortment of goodies at the aid stations- thank you!

Even though I wasn’t able to complete the multi-rig at the end (partly due to cramping), I really liked the way this obstacle was set-up this year. I also appreciated that it was set-up so that even someone like me (who is not very tall) could reach things.

Also, Antonio, Malorie, Terry, Jenny, and all who put on this race are such wonderful people. I wanted to thank Antonio, Malorie, and Wil for helping get our truck out of a hole, & Phil and Jolene for stopping to make sure I was okay and contacting Antonio. Even though they were in charge of everything and so busy, they took the time and effort to help my husband and me pull out our truck. We really appreciate all their help, strength, patience, and kindness.

So much heart goes into putting on this race. I’m fortunate that I had the opportunity to both run and volunteer for this wonderful event!

This is my third time running the Grit race and I highly recommend it for everyone! It challenges runners of every experience level, but most importantly it is really fun. I usually clear this race with a quicker time, but I took it easy as I brought my 13 year old son for his first race and hopefully more to come in the future. My son enjoyed it plentiful as well with the flaming legs ended up being his favorite obstacle.
The refreshment stations were always on point helping out the racers when the energy was feeling low or throat was becoming dry. I would add more obstacles to make the race even more fun. Can’t wait to see what the future racers have in store!

I was able to pay for VIP parking and had no problem arriving to the event. You could feel the energy all around with all the vendor tents and music. Everything is well organized and the course was awesome. As a first time participant, it was enjoyable doing all the different obstacles and well thought of hydration stations. I recommend this race to anyone! There is a great community feel to the entire event.

First, best aid stations of any race I’ve ever done. EVER. Having the tubs with ice water and a sponge to drip ice water down your neck was amazing. Beautiful but brutal course. Lots of climbs (that first climb was the worst), but a fantastic downhill around mile 3. The obstacles were different than you’d see at most OCRs – definitely more heavy carries, but Hammer Time was great, Boo’s Closet, and even Shape Shifter was fun. I thought the loops for the carries were a little long though, and there was a backup at Yolk’d especially.

Dropped a star for Production because Flip This House shut down right after I completed it because all of them were breaking. The backups at Yolk’d and Shape Shifter weren’t great (I ran open). Boo’s Closet was super fun, but as a shorter runner I honestly couldn’t get on it without someone helping me up since they were just a little high to step up on. BUT having straw/hay or whatever under the rope climb made a huge difference, and everything else was great. I’d still 5 star it overall if you add everything together and would totally do it again!
