The annual Great Santa Run 5K is a great way to celebrate the holiday season while supporting Operation Breakthrough, one of Kansas City’s favorite charities. We are excited to hold the race at a NEW SITE at Park Place in Leawood (11549 Ash Street) and we will once again offer great finishers medals to all participants and a great kids run to all of the Lil’ Elves! Participants in the 5k can add a long sleeve event shirt for $8.

The mission of Operation Breakthrough is to help children who are living in poverty develop to their fullest potential by providing them a safe, loving and educational environment. Operation Breakthrough also strives to support and empower the children’s families through advocacy, referral services and emergency aid. A portion of the proceeds from registration fees and 100% of meal ticket sales will be donated to Operation Breakthrough.
In addition, we ask each registrant to be a Santa and bring a $10 unopened, unwrapped toy to be given to local children at Operation Breakthrough. Each toy donor will receive a raffle ticket for each toy donated and the drawing for raffle prizes will take place after the race.

The Great Santa Run 5K was an unforgettable experience! The festive atmosphere was truly the highlight, with participants dressed in Santa suits and holiday-themed outfits. The energy was contagious, and it felt like a big celebration of the season.
One way to improve the race could be to have more water stations along the route, as some runners felt a bit dehydrated, especially near the end. Additionally, a few more festive activities at the finish line would enhance the overall experience, like live music or holiday treats.
I would definitely recommend this race to friends! It’s a fun way to get into the holiday spirit while staying active, and it’s suitable for runners of all levels. Plus, it supports a good cause, which makes it even better!
