Join the Grayson Highlands 50 Mile, 50K & Half Marathon this May for what trail runners everywhere have deemed a “MUST DO” and “BUCKET LIST” run! Each distance takes runners on a beautiful and unforgettable adventure through Grayson Highlands State Park. This run has a little bit of everything, and is the perfect mix of fun, safe, and challenging!
The 50 Mile on Saturday has 9,500 ft of climbing and 17.5 hour cutoff
The 50k on Saturday has 5000 ft of climbing and 11 hour cutoff
The 25K on Sunday has 3,000 ft of gain and 6 hour cutoff
The 8 mile on Sunday has 1,400 ft gain and 4 hour cutoff
As with all of our mountain/ultra/trail races, we like to say that the distances are “ish”. Everyone’s GPS reads differently, and our mapping software might be slightly different than what you actually run. That’s just part of the fun of trail running. The goal of the event is to experience the incredible scenic beauty and not to hit an exact distance.
Grayson Highlands is Virginia’s third largest state park with just over 4500 acres of land. This beautiful park is located in Grayson County in southern Virginia. It is the HIGHEST state park in Virginia.
The park is best known for beautiful vistas and the wild ponies that live in the highlands. This is one of the few places in the south where Fraser Fir trees still grow. Expect to see spectacular views from all of the trails and overlooks. On a clear day, you can see for 70 miles. The park offers 15 miles of trails of which most will be used for the races.
You will see waterfalls, streams, rhododendron tunnels, 100+ year old built stone walls, views of two states and more single track than you can imagine!
Bring a camera and enjoy the course. Who knows you might even see a pony when you’re running!
