The Fredericksburg Blue & Gray 1/2 Marathon course is USATF Certified, on the Heritage Trail and Canal Path, and will always be in a counterclockwise direction. On the first loop of the circuit, there is a small loop on the roads below the college. On the second loop of the circuit, there is a out and back spur on the Fall Hill Trail and a small loop on the roads of Normandy Village.
Fun Facts about the Fall Hill Trail: the trail is 1.38 miles long, running from the junction with the Canal Path and Heritage Trail to Gordon Shelton Blvd.
Low point is 61 feet at the junction with the Canal Path and Heritage Trail, course mile point 5.25, and high point is 258 feet on the bridge spanning I-95.
From low point to high point is 5147 feet at a 3.8% gradient. Maximum gradient is about 16%. The first 1691 feet at the bottom has an average gradient of 11.1%.
You get to come back down the trail at mile point 9.8.
