Fredericksburg is a historic Civil War site, with a lot of history. The night before we stayed at the Hyatt Place, which was in a great location just minutes from the start and finish. The staff there was exceptional when we suggested we wanted to eat downtown and possibly watch the parade. They directed us (by Uber, an important aspect since streets were closed) to a great ale house where we could watch through the windows since it was a rather chilly evening. We wished we had seen more of the downtown area during the race, but the race was run through parks and some quiet neighborhoods. Except for THE HILL. Killer hill half way through, and I was only half kidding when I told my friend I could look up and not see the top; it was cold, and you could see your breath, and at the top of the hill it was frozen fog, which I’ve never heard about in my life! It was a substantial Hill I may say, but the only one on the route, and you returned down the same hill. Again, I really wish the route took us through downtown Fredericksburg, where there were beautiful old buildings and storefronts.
I had paid to have the race packet shipped, but the shirts were her held up and given away at regular packet pick up. The bib barely made it in time, arriving the day before I flew out. Kudos to Kristen though, who was on top of it and proactive about the mailed bibs taking a long time to be received and assuring us that a new bib number would be assigned, if necessary, when we arrived.
Swag: A nice long sleeve tech shirt and beautiful medal. The start was a little hard to find for those of us who did not know the area, but we were able to ask people walking by.
This was a smaller race and production, having just left Rehoboth Beach and their large numbers. All in all, glad to knock out another state in our quest.
