I drove from Bend, Oregon to do this race with a friend who lives in Boise. I had high hopes of getting a PR since the course is all downhill, which I did. Unfortunately, that was about the only positive outcome I had from this race. I am very hesitant to criticize races and RDs, but for the sake of unsuspecting runners who might consider this in the future, I want others to think twice before doing this one. Aside from poor communication, the most disappointing thing for me was the fact that they announced prior to the start of the race that they would be handing out leftover medals from last year. Of course this meant that there were not nearly enough medals for all the finishers, so those at the back of the pack walked away empty handed. We were told (as our bib numbers were written down) that they would be ordering more and a medal would be sent to us. After multiple emails and messages on FB, I received no response from the RD. Today I learned from another runner that we are out of luck and that she had received a message from the RD not expect to see a medal. Better luck next time? Nope…there won’t be a next time for me and the Freakin’ Fast Half Marathon.

This race was a bit if a shxtstorm. Last minute course change — only 30 miles away. No communication on social media of course change. Oopsies, we are out of medals. And guess what! not enough buses for runners to get to the start …. last year the buses didn’t even show up!
Thank you Boise!

The race started out rocky. A few minutes before the race was set to start the race director had to announce the buses weren’t coming. Thanks to some quick thinking and some very generous locals the race was able to start. The course was fast like the title and almost all downhill.
