I went out to Colorado for this race as a tune-up for the NYC Marathon this fall. Course logistics were a lot. This point-to-point course had a ~45min shuttle from the parking lot to the startline. Weather was chilly and rainy that eventually quit. We were all packed in the Mishawaka until just before the race began. It may go without saying, but no way for supporters to watch you throughout the race (unless the run UP the canyon), but most of the volunteers were supportive and friendly. Race swag was a cool pullover shirt that I personally liked – another reviewer made a note about the NO ID/NO BEER policy – that was also frustrating. I think they can smooth out some things in the future, but a good race. Perhaps I’d been captivated by the beauty if it wasn’t raining. 3/5 shoes from me – see you on the roads!

This must have been a logistically difficult race to direct, so kudos to those who put this on and to the many volunteers. The finish line is several miles from where participants park their cars, so you must plan carefully to bring all the gear you need as you board your bus to the start. I absolutely loved this course, which featured a very gradual, quad-friendly descent from about 5800 to 5200 feet. I chose this destination race in part for the challenge of a race at altitude (I come from relatively low-lying Tennessee), and it did in fact lend to a faster heart rate and early fatigue for me. When I finished, I went directly to the beer line to redeem the beer token provided in the swag bag, but was told by an attendant that I must present my photo ID first. There I was, a guy in my 60’s, a long bus ride away from my car (and wallet), age printed on my race bib, and thirsty as hell after running 13.1 miles, and getting the no ID-no beer attitude. It had never happened to me before at a race, but now it has. It was all good though, as I grabbed a Coke instead, and was quite satisfied.

Point to point race mostly following the Poudre river. Views are incredible but was not prepared for the significant elevation change! Last 3 miles were gently uphill (and not as scenic). Well run event with some of the best swag out there! Including a great race shirt.

This race always awesome. This was my first half marathon and first race outside of a 5k race and I loved it! The scenery was gorgeous. Transportation to the starting line was great and the post race party was great. The medal was a little small and nothing eye-popping but the tech tee was awesome! There is a hill at 8 miles that can be a bit of a stinger and from miles 10 to the finish line is very exposed so be prepared for Colorado sun and heat!
WILL REPEAT

This is the first time for me doing the Fall Equinox and it won’t be the last. Everything was easy from packet pick up to taking the shuttle to and from the start/finish line. Can’t beat the beauty of Poudre Canyon at the end of the summer. Downhill/flat course. Very minimal uphill. Not too drastic of a decline. Only flaw is the road is really sloped. But it is manageable. Highly recommend. GREAT swag!
