Are you ready to have a “devilishly” good time while supporting a great cause? The Devil’s Slide Run features five challenging and spectacularly beautiful routes that will satisfy anyone from the novice hiker to the hard core trail junkie. Distances range from a 4K run/hike to our super challenging and fun 50K trail run with an evil 7,000+ feet of climbing! All of the routes feature stunning views of the San Mateo coastline, and the Half Marathon, 30K and 50K routes include the “Alta Vista Trail,” a cruel and beautiful trail that climbs 1200′ in just over a mile, and is normally off-limits to organized events!
Your registration includes a cool finisher’s medal, an evil set of devil horns, a swag bag and an all-you-can-eat free lunch afterwards! Custom-designed tech tees are available for an additional charge. Proceeds from the event directly benefit PARCA, a local nonprofit whose programs help people with developmental disabilities lead more satisfying and independent lives.
About the name: The “Devil’s Slide” is a name given to a steep, rocky coastal promontory located about midway between Montara and the Linda Mar District of Pacifica. This spectacular section of coastline is beautiful but has been plagued with landslides which ultimately led to the closing and rerouting of Highway 1 around the slide.

I have run 69 Half Marathons in 2-1/2 years. This is the hardest yet. Actually, it’s tied. I have run up Mt. Montara twice. Each run was extraordinarily difficult, more than Angel Island or the Dipsea. It’s about 3000 feet of vertical gain.
On this race, there was a woman really struggling. It was her first trail run. The guy with her, a husband or father or coach, was trying to encourage her. I felt bad for her.
So I write with what is an invitation or a warning depending on your perspective. It’s a great run, but be aware it is not easy. I would not make it a first trail run unless you are a very strong athlete. The one big hill is a doozy.
