So I hate lap courses. This wasn’t really. It’s a circle. You leave the start line, go in a loop to just shy of the finish line, then turn around and do it in reverse. Like an out-and-back and a loop course had a baby that avoided having to do laps. It was weird, and while I usually find it demotivating when you go by/near/past the finish line and turn back, somehow since this was the halfway mark it actually wasn’t, and was a fine way to mix things up.

The shirt is a very nice soft cotton and the medal was honestly beautiful. There’s a high contrast 3d relief and a very hefty feel to the medal. It’s honestly better than some of the 10k medals and on par with the cheaper (but not crappy) half marathon medals. For someone who doesn’t do many 5ks because the 10 and half medals are usually so much nicer, this was a real treat.

The course was small elevation rolling hills that you get to experience both directions, and while none were particularly big I didn’t feel like I had many actual straightaways for long, barring the one leading up to the turnaround point. The scenery was a nice office complex’s perimeter road. Felt more like a university campus than a boring-architecture-chunky-block-fest. The weather was in the low 60s and overcast, but with no real natural shade on the course that might have been less fun 20 degrees higher, so we did get somewhat lucky compared to a week ago. In any event, I’ll be rolling the dice with the weather again next year for the 3rd annual running of this event. Hope to see you there. Say hi to the guy in body armor when you pass him.
