Heard a great review from a friend and signed up for this community-led race that always sells out with a couple other friends.
Great check-in experience with a discount at the local outdoor store and an actually nice race t-shirt and sticker.
The air quality in the area was smoky and the forecast wasn’t looking good, but the organizers sent out their plan a couple days before the event and kept racers informed about the plan at check-in and at the race deadline. They had someone overnight at the highest point on the course to check the air quality and someone at the starting line, verifying that it met the minimum requirements.
Shuttle drivers were nice and safe. Volunteers on the course were enthusiastic and supportive, including a local livestock company that totes up aid station supplies on horseback. The photographer captured great shots (and biked up and down from the pass to get them!). I was impressed that there was a medic/first aid on the course (~ mile 8), the finish line AND the after party, too.
Speaking of the after party – so fun! Great nutritious lunch, energetic community vibe, a free beer with your bib (N/A beer available) and a very impressive raffle of a ton of prizes (Rumpl blankets, Goodr sunglasses, On Cloud hats, buffs, running vests, etc)

I can’t rave enough about this race along the Pacific Crest Trail over Cutthroat Pass. The views are so amazing that you forget you are climbing 2000 feet up and before you know it you are heading down to the finish. The race organization was great. Be sure to check your wave assignment on your information packet when you pick it up (some of us failed to notice we were assigned to an earlier wave than we had registered for). If you’re interested in this race, be sure to sign up early to secure your spot. I’ll see you out there because I’m doing this race every year for as long as I am still running!
