The Cottonmouth Beerlay will be one for the history books! We have literally combined two of the best things in the world… Drinking and Running. While not traditionally put together this chemistry experiment is bound to have some “explosive” results! Drink- Run- Repeat.
You and your friends will take turns running the magnificent Trail Blazer Park 2 Mile trail loop. Before each lap is run, you have the option to drink a 12-ounce beer for a 2 minute deduction off your lap time. Run solo, with your best friend, or on a team of 3 or 4 to complete the 8 Mile course. Beer option only available for those 21 and older. Your relay baton will be a full beer can. You must hold this can the entire race. (Any team with a racer under 21, will hold a non-alchoholic object.)
Rules:
– Each competitor drinks four cans of beer and runs four laps (start – beer, then lap, then beer, then lap, then beer, then lap – finish).
– Beer must be consumed before the lap is begun, within the transition area which is the 10 meter zone before the start/finish line at the park.
– The race begins with the drinking of the first beer in the last meter of the transition zone to ensure the competitors run the complete distance.
– Beer will be provided Brewery 85. Hard ciders and lemonades will not suffice. The beer must be a fermented alcoholic beverage brewed from malted cereal grains and flavored with hops.
– All relay runners must carry a full beer baton during the race to be exchanged to the next runner.

The idea is simple drink a beer run two miles and repeat! You can compete as an 8 mile relay team or you can compete individually and run all 8 miles yourself. You are NOT required to drink beer, but if you do you get a 2 minute deduction off your time. Also, you have the option of drinking a carbonated beverage instead of beer to qualify for the time deduction. The course was a trail around a farm and had several hills and the trail was rough. Lots of roots, stumps, rocks, and ruts to dodge. It was my first trail experience so I’m not sure how good a judge I am of that aspect. There was a nice pond and some horses to look at but I honestly spent most of the time looking at the ground making sure I didn’t trip over something. The race was a smaller event and well organized. I love that they give out running socks instead of t-shirts! I have plenty of t-shirts! Since it was a “beerlay” the swag included a coozie too. It was a fun time overall and I would definitely do it again!
