Corpus Christi’s annual Harbor Half Marathon is presented by Flint Hills Resources. It is “the highest half in Texas” and will be guaranteed to challenge even the most seasoned runner. The half marathon is challenging, yet allows runners to experience the best that Corpus Christi has to offer.
The half marathon will take you down through historic areas of the Corpus Christi harbor, across the Harbor Bridge, along Corpus Christi Beach, and up on to the causeway, which will take you out across the Nueces Bay and onto one of the most natural and scenic wetland habitats of our coastline, Sunset Lake Park.
The Harbor Half is a spectacular Half Marathon, Relay, 5K and 10K. If this is your first time, we know it will be a wonderful new race experience. If you are a returning runner, you know exactly what type of excitement is in store.
The Harbor Half Marathon is a fundraising event for Junior Achievement of the Coastal Bend. This event will assist JA in providing financial literacy to over 13,000 students in Corpus Christi and the Coastal Bend areas.

Harbor Half Marathon Review — 2025
I’ve run this race in past years when it crossed the old Corpus Christi Harbor Bridge, and I always enjoyed it. However, this year’s inaugural run over the new bridge changed the experience enough that, while I’m glad I did it once, I don’t plan to run it again.
Preparation and Course
The event website did not adequately prepare runners for how much longer and higher the new bridge is. The climb is steeper and sustained, followed by a long, punishing downhill that pounds the quads. It would have been good for a FAQ on the incline and time. It’s a beautiful view—but make no mistake, it’s a very challenging hill both up and down.
On the Bridge
At most, the bridge pedestrian walkway allows about four runners across, which creates crowding. Walkers and underprepared runners quickly become obstacles, especially on the inclines. To improve future races, I’d strongly recommend using timed corrals and releasing groups every 3–5 minutes to ease congestion. If the organizers get the state to let them clear a lane for runners it would fix the issue.
Course Markings and Support
If there were mile markers, I completely missed them—and so did many around me. Every organized race should clearly mark each mile; their absence here was a major disappointment.
Also, I didn’t see any sports drinks (Gatorade, Powerade, etc.) at the aid stations—only water. The volunteers were great, but for a race this demanding, electrolyte options are essential.
Overall
The Harbor Half has always been a local favorite, and I’ve appreciated it in years past. But with the new bridge’s difficulty, missing mile markers, and limited on-course support, this version felt rougher than it should have been. It was worth running once for the experience, but I won’t be signing up again.

Ran this one for the challenge of running over the harbor bridge. There is another smaller overpass that you run over before hitting the turn around point and running back over both bridges. The view is cool from the top of the bridge, seeing the bay, the USS Lexington, and the skyline. Production was okay, swag is a shirt and finisher medal. placing medals are the same as the finish medal but a different color. food was pizza, powerade, water, fruit. This one is probably a one and done for me since it is an out of town run.
