The ski mountain gondola being down with an upgrade this year switched things up, but race directors Alex and Todd came up with another great course. Very well organized. Up the ski mountain from base to summit (~7,000′ to ~10,500′) on mostly singletrack trails and then down a different route back to the base again mostly on singletrack trails. Tough course at altitude but rewarding views of the town of Steamboat and surrounding valley. Fun prizes and raffle at the finish. This also a good option to train for the local Run Rabbit Run ultra if you ever plan on doing that.
The local paper has a good write up too with more details:

First off, Alex and Todd are the best race directors ever. Race is capped at 120 runners (93 did it in ’15) and the director duo made post-race ice cream sandwiches for all. Fruit, trail mix, snacks and a strong showing of beer (much appreciated boys) added to the post-race party at top of the gondola. Solid raffle post-race great too. Two aid stations at Long Lake and Storm Peak well stocked too, great volunteers. Must do run for anyone interested in trail running, conveniently located in Steamboat. Start at Fish Creek Falls trailhead (7,440′), climb up six miles past the lower and upper falls to Long Lake at 9,880′ – steep, rocky but beautiful trail. Then turn on Mountain View trail and smoother but rolling trail (still beautiful and scenic) to top of Mt Werner and the Steamboat ski mountain (peak out at Storm Peak at 10,420′) at mile 12.4 mile and then descend the 2.5 miles to top of the gondola. Take free gondola down and back to base of mountain and parking – they organize a shuttle to get you from gondola base to fish creek pre-race. Highly recommend! Great time of year to be in Steamboat, great trail and super well-organized and magical run.
