Had this idealistic idea of running on the boardwalk alongside the beach… That has officially been dashed. The boardwalk was completely terrifying to run on, it was not well-maintained and I had to spend the entirety of the race staring down to make sure that I was stepping on wobbly planks, not tripping on nails, & missing spots where there were gaps. In addition, the fueling stations were not well-manned (having to pour own water sometimes) and they were stingy with distributing the water (shot sized cups & not happy when i wanted more than 1). When I finished the race, no one had any idea how I was supposed to be able to get my medal as the finish line had been abandoned (And I was in the middle of the pack, not at the end). Overall, I was very unimpressed with the way it was run and I keep an eye out for that company when looking at future races.

You are running on the public, open boardwalk here, which means:
    – No shade! You are baking in the sun, and in mid July expect it to be humid
    – Watch where you run. The boards are loose in many places. A lot of people were tripping.
    – Pedestrians, bicyclists are crossing your path. They do not shut down the boardwalk. So you have to watch out for others.
    – The boardwalk is short. You have to complete a ~4.37 mile loop 3 times. So it’s not the most exciting course.
    – The refreshments set up was not great. There are plenty of stations, and even though they say they were handing out sports drinks, I only saw and had water. After the race there was just a large water cooler and a few communal bottles of water to rehydrate. So you end up staying in line waiting to get a drink.
