Join us in October for the Clo Cow Half Marathon, 10K & 5K in charming Historic Downtown Petaluma! Wind your way through picturesque Sonoma County farmland and rolling hills, where friendly sheep, horses—and of course Moo-Cows—will cheer you on every step of the way. Sure, those climbs are a challenge, but the sweeping country views at the top are well worth the effort!
The Clo Cow Half Marathon, 10K & 5K courses start and finish in the heart of Historic Downtown Petaluma. Participants will start on Kentucky Street and make a left on Western Avenue, where the route takes runners quickly into farm country. Before mile 1.5, the race turns right on Chapman Lane, where 5K runners/walkers turn around. The Half Marathon and 10K turn left on Eastman Lane (shortly after the 10K turns around) and another left on Middle Two Rock Rd. As you near mile 5, the longest hill climb on the course starts, but that is rewarded at mile 6 with an incredible view, as well as the halfway point in your journey.

Petaluma is a great small town. The course was hillier than expected but not not awful. The cowbell medal was super cute and I like the shirt, everything was well organized. My only complaint which is nobody’s fault was that they kept touting the great views at the top after running uphill for 6 miles…and it was so foggy I could barely see three feet in front of me. That was a bummer but overall it was still a fun one.

This is a smallish race that is well-organized and has a fun finisher medal, the cow bell. The course is mostly hills with decent grades and almost entirely rural roads, with little crowd support. There are sufficient water stops and these are staffed with enthusiastic volunteers; no port-a-pots on course. Personally, this was my least favorite half marathon I have done to date. If you like constant hills, quiet and rural scenery, little to no crowd support, the smell of manure as you run, and unique swag, then this is a race for you. I most appreciated the easy logistics (e.g., parking), fun swag, and ample post-race amenities (i.e., food, stretching/foam rolling stations, free massages) that accompanied this relatively small race. All in all not bad, and plan to soak in some California countryside and don’t be concerned with time/pace.
Lots of hills.

A beautiful town and a fun race made this a memorable run. I LOVE getting a cowbell as my finisher medal (I want to find more races with cowbells). The description says rolling hills, compared to my normal run route more of these hills plunged than rolled. However, each and every hill was conquered and having a downhill run to the finish line was fantastic.
