Great huge lollipop. 2 mile stick then big counter clockwise loop. Mile two is uphill on concrete, but not that steep. Three miles in the middle are all steep rolling hills. Hard race. Good course though. They said it was usually hot. Cool and overcast this year. No real pre/post-race setup. You just go out there and race. No finisher medal for 5k but the half medal was exceptionally well designed, showcasing the roses, the big hill, and an integrated 44 (44th running) with 2024 on it. Shirt was nice long-sleeved cotton t. Fairly heavy. Lots of aid stations and the volunteers were bringing the fire. The ladies at the dancing stop before the big hill were bringing the party and the young ladies at the fire station I could hear cheering everybody from half a mile out. Everybody brought their A-game today and it’s clear the town cares about this race. Absolute do again if it wasn’t so far away. I am deducting points for not having a 5k medal. I feel like post COVID and with the rise of the virtual, there’s really no reason for those guys to not get something as well. They are every bit out there as much as we are, and if RDs want to attract the larger crowds we can’t have a good chunk of people on the field having a very different experience from us. Especially when the half medal is so exceptional, so clearly they know what they are doing.
Lots of potential.
