The Catamount Ultra Marathon starts and finishes at beautiful Trapp Family Lodge outside of Stowe VT. The 25k course is primarily wide, hard-packed dirt trail. Rolling through highland pastures and hardwood forest complete with maple sugar tap lines in place and ready for the spring “run”, this course is not to be missed. Our course circumnavigates the incredibly well maintained and protected Trapp Family Lodge trail system at the foot of Mount Mansfield, Vermont’s highest peak. To complete the 50k course, runners will complete the 25k loop, two times. There is an 9 hour racer cutoff.
Starting and finishing at the Trapp Family Lodge Outdoor Center, runners will complete a 25k loop entirely within Trapp Family Lodge property. 50k racers will complete this same loop twice. Runners will travel through beautiful hardwood forests and past scenic pastures complete with long horned highland cattle. Located in the foothills below Mount Mansfield, Trapp Family Lodge is a destination resort for hikers, skiers, bikers and all types of outdoor enthusiasts. The majority of the course is on the incredibly well cared for and seasonally maintained Trapp multi-use trail system, with a few sections on double track logging roads, a little gravel, and a just a touch of pavement thrown in. This race should be treated as a trail run. While most of the trails are in great shape, loose footing, mud, rocky terrain, and similar trail hazards should be expected.

The volunteers were amazing! They were so nice and willing to help out. The on course aid stations were always fully stocked with snacks and hydration. The hills were tough, especially the muddy downhill sections, but it wouldn’t be VT if there weren’t good hills. The race was no frills and you get a pint glass at the end which is way better than a medal in my opinion! I would highly recommend this race to anyone looking for a good challenge!
