It’s that time of year when you just need to get out and run up a mountain in cold and wet conditions. This year, the Capitol Peaks Mega Fat Ass is an Olytrailrunners Race. We are returning to the old low key approach that makes this Fat Ass so much fun!
The Capitol Peak MegaFatAss has two distance options, 17 miles or 34 miles. Since this is a Fat Ass, there is no food at the aid stations except some water, no awards, or T shirts! You will need to be self supported, so no WHINING! There will be post race soup provided that you bring a can of Chicken Noddle Soup or a box of Butter Nut Squash soup to throw in the pot! The Capitol Peak Mega Fat Ass is a fundraiser for the Friends of Capitol Forest, the group that maintains these great trails we run on. And we also donate to the South Sound Mobile Search and Rescue, so you know your race fee is going to a good cause! If you like, we’ll also be taking additional donations on race-day.
The start/finish will be at the Margaret McKenny Campground.

This is really good course and a nice challenge for someone who wants to see their potential in an ultra race. The admission fee is really cheap and the race is organized by volunteers. My only qualm is that my race results never got posted on ultra sign up. After finishing a hard course this is the last thing one would expect. At the 2nd aid station they told me that I have the wrong bib. Not only that my result never got posted but the race director Herb Reeves never responded to any of my email. At the end of the race, they told me that my finish time is 6 hrs 50 mins.
