Welcome to the Cape Cod Trail Race, an all-trail event hosted by the Falmouth Running Club and located in the scenic Frances A. Crane Wildlife Management Area. The Falmouth Running Club provides members with competitive and recreational running opportunities for all ages and abilities. In addition, the Cape Cod Trail Race is proud to support The Natural Heritage & Endangered Species Fund and The Massachusetts Outdoor Heritage Foundation. Participants have the choice to compete in one of three events:
- The Long Trail Race (10K) – one lap around our course.
- The Longer Trail Race (20K) – two laps around our course.
- The Longest Trail Race (30K) – three laps around our course.
Roughly, the first and last two miles of the course are run through fields and are pretty fast (for trails), while the middle two miles are more single-track, windy, hilly and technical (nothing too crazy though)
Due to the nature of the run, all distances are approximate. The footing on the course is mostly smooth trail, but there are some rutted, rooted, and rocky sections. There are a few boulders that must be hopped or dodged (we promise these boulders are stationary), and there are some short but steep uphills and downhills. The course will be marked with signs and flagging.
This is not a closed course. We ask that you respect the space that has been granted by the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife as well as other trail users such as hikers, mountain bikers and horse riders. We also ask that you do not build barriers as this may be dangerous for other path users.

This is the first time I had a DNF, and I really wanted to go on but the weather was miserable – cold and windy – and it was just one of those days. I also had ‘dead legs’ that morning, and I don’t know if it was the cold or I over-trained, but my head took over my body and my head one. It sucks, because I love this race and how technically difficult it is. I’ll be back out there next year and will be more prepared for whatever Mother Nature throws at me!
