Great course; especially running on a dirt path around a lake for a few miles. There’s a pretty steep incline between 11 – 12 that threw me (and my time) and the last .10 has some old cobblestones to navigate, but other than that a wonderful course! My biggest complaint would be the wait to get some food after the race. The line was long and moved so slowly. Great scenery and wonderful weather!

There wasn’t anything really WRONG with this race, and I’m sure its great if you live in the area because its convenient, but overall the course was pretty boring. Since we traveled for the race and spent the night, it doesn’t make sense for us to repeat this race. There’s not much to see, especially the beach, which we got to see for all of 20 seconds. It’s a relatively easy course, just a couple of small hills and the race swag is pretty awesome.

I love this course and this race. I was on pace for a PR and at mile 8 my mind took over, and before I knew it I was way off! Sooo, I’ll be back at it next year because now I’m pissed! Lol! If you haven’t done this race I think you’ll really enjoy it. Great people, awesome scenery and a fairly easy course to run, even when your head takes over!

This is the first time I had a DNF, and I really wanted to go on but the weather was miserable – cold and windy – and it was just one of those days. I also had ‘dead legs’ that morning, and I don’t know if it was the cold or I over-trained, but my head took over my body and my head one. It sucks, because I love this race and how technically difficult it is. I’ll be back out there next year and will be more prepared for whatever Mother Nature throws at me!

I’m sure some people loved it, but for someone who lives and trains in New England, the 90% humidity and temps in the 80’s made for a tough race, especially the last three miles. The course was great, mostly flat and nice scenery, although with a 6:00am start time we didn’t see much for the first 30 minutes! You can’t control the weather so I’m looking forward to running this race again next year with different results. And oh, they have one of the coolest finisher medals!!

This was our fifth half marathon this year and the Monterey Half was by far the best! Everything, and I mean everything, was seamless! Transportation to and from the start, the course, the aid stations (so many and Gatorade at every one!), and the awesome scenery made for such a great day! But the volunteers and the entertainment along the route really put this over the top. We are already committed to doing it again next year, and since we’re flying in from Boston, that says a lot!
