The Caney Fork Ultra has been shortened to a 50K from its previous 40 mile distance since we no longer cross the Caney Fork River. The 50K is run on a mix of single track and some gravel across Bridgestone Firestone Centennial Wilderness WMA, The Nature Conservancy’s Bridgestone Nature Reserve, as well as one of Tennessee’s newest State Parks, Scotts Gulf Wilderness State Park. Runners will pass beautiful overlooks along the Scotts Gulf Rim and pass no fewer than six waterfalls as well as crossing Copper Cascades along the course, so even though we don’t cross the Caney Fork River any longer, you will still get your feet wet!
The new Caney Fork 20K course will be ran along trails in Bridgestone Firestone Centennial Wilderness WMA and Scotts Gulf Wilderness State park. The new course passes Yellow Bluff overlook, giving a beautiful view of Scotts Gulf and the Caney Fork River below, as well as passing Gunstock Falls, Lower Polly Branch Falls, and Copper Cascades. 20K runners will get their feet wet as well!

I grew up in this area and love where the race is held. It’s beautiful and rugged. The course is difficult but wonderful at the same time. The people who put on the race are amazing and so kind. This race isn’t fancy with blaring start line music, microphones, huge banners, or aid stations every 2 miles. The start is a simple lineup with brief instructions and the course is well marked. The 20K distance has 1 aid station. The aid stations are well stocked with good snacks as well as Tailwind and water. You will not PR and likely finish slower than you wish, but you’ll see amazing sites and be blessed by some of the best people. Usually a small event with small crowds. There’s a good pre-race dinner the night before if you wish to participate and food at the finish line.

Great trail race that has wonderful scenery and a visit to an abandoned mine along the way. Unique and the aid stations have awesome snacks like watermelon, oranges, pretzels, and PB&J rollups! Love this rugged area of TN. The volunteers and race hosts are great and pull off the race as a grass roots labor of love. The pre-race dinner included an informative presentation on the area.
