I’ve only ran three 50ks but this was my favorite so far. The first several miles were pretty easy and mild. Eventually there were more technical spots that were a bit rocky and challenging but still doable. The climbing wasn’t too bad. There was one spot where you had to go down a ravene type split between some large rocks and that was not runnable. You had to walk and be very careful not to slip. But that’s only like a half mile luckily. The middle miles had some climbing but pretty scenery and the last few miles had some short rolling hills that were pretty fun. The last half mile before the finish there was a cruelly placed hill and that sucked but it wasn’t to long luckily. The aid stations were very well placed. The volunteers were great. Porter potties at aid stations. There was help all along the way if needed. It’s a low key race but I would definitely recommend it. I really enjoyed the views and made some friends along the way. Starting and ending at the ghost town was really cool too. Made for some fun pics.

The race was absolutely brutal, both mentally and physically. The first 18 miles is largely uphill on loose gravel which slowly drains you of energy. After you get through that there is more of it, along with rock fields of various types, steep ascents and steeper descents. Add to that, much of the terrain is littered with crushed beer cans and spent shotgun shells.
All of that aside, the course was very well marked and the support staff on course were extraordinarily kind and supportive.
