This race is one I will always try to run. It’s just a fun 10 miles through the Bronx with great crowds, great production as usual from NYRR, and a course that isn’t too challenging. Race morning packet pickup is easy if you get there early enough and shirts get picked up after the race. This year’s shirt is a great dark red color that I really like. The new recycled medals from NYRR are just okay, but this medal is actually pretty cool looking. It is easy to get to the race with public transportation and the course, while it’s not flat, isn’t all that bad when it comes to hills.

This is one of my favorite races that New York Road Runners puts on. I wish there were more 10 mile distance races–I love the distance. There is always great energy at this race–both from the other runners and the people in the Bronx. It’s a mostly flat course (there are some uphills and the race finishes on a downhill). You finish by Yankee Stadium (I guess that’s a plus or minus, based on your favorite baseball team 😂). For those planning a fall marathon, this race is perfect for training run. It’s also easy to add on some additional mileage if your training plan has you running more this weekend. With the entry fee you receive a short sleeve tech t-shirt and a decent medal.

What I liked: The course is simple “T” shape that goes out from the Grand Concourse (up the hill from Yankee Stadium), up to Mosholu Parkway, and back. There are park-like views for the northernmost mile(s), moderately wavy elevation changes, ample hydration stops, and that BIG push down the hill towards the stadium. There was an absolute abundance of portajohns and the finish chute flowed very nicely. Not to forget that transporation to and from the area is as simple as getting on the 4 train! Post-race fuel is ample (water, Gatorade, apple, pretzels all handed to you in a baggie).

What could be better/less annoying: I don’t have much in terms of “they need to change this,” and this might seem like nitpicking, though first-time runners may wish to take note. I would recommend to first time runners to leverage the time it takes to get from drop off to the starting corral. If you’re in AA, A, B, or C, be prepared to walk maybe 15 minutes. Also, the aforementioned portajohns by the 4 train are *not* the only place to “go.” There are plenty up by the starting corral. The road itself is typical NYC, with some newly paved areas and others well-worn. Runners, watch out for the ruts caused by millions of cars traveling these roads!

The Bronx 10Miler was another well run event by New York Road Runners.
First time running this event and enjoyed the DJs placed throughout the course. A nice tribute to Hip Hop considering it’s the birthplace & 50th year celebration.

The weather felt great and the Bronx really came out to support the runners. Yankee Stadium served as the backdrop of the start/finish area with local businesses serving coffee, fruit and sandwiches early in the morning.

One more in person NYRR event (Staten Island Half) to guarantee the NYC Half in 2024. Overall, a good weekend for the family and enjoyed the change of pace.

The weather was once again perfect. The course is relatively challenging, with very few (if any) flat sections. The first half is net uphill. The only positive being that the second half is net downhill since the course is an out and back.

The shirt this year is pretty nice. The medal is almost identical to NYRR’s other races, the only difference seeming to be that each features a different bridge.

The one thing that annoyed me about the race is that NYRR doesn’t enforce their “no hydration packs” policy. I saw at least 10 people wearing one, even seeing a volunteer talking to one of these people without even mentioning it.

I lived in the Bronx for 8 years so I really wanted to do this race and was excited it fit in my schedule this year. It also worked great with the Hamptons half marathon the day before for a double race weekend. As I said it that review I stayed in a hotel in Queens which was the most convenient location for both races. I had plans in Manhattan after the race in the Hamptons so I got my packet at the NYRR center on Saturday but you could also get packet the day of the race. Packet pick-up was easy at the center and also included a nice red tech T-shirt with the race logo. On Sunday morning I took a cab to the race since I wasn’t sure how parking was going to be and public transportation would take over an hour and I was going to a Mets game in the afternoon so it was easier to keep my car in Queens. Since I already picked up my packet it was very stress free just being dropped off. This is a huge race with over 10,000 runners. There are long porta potty lines which I expected so I went early. You are assigned corral based on pace. I was in the last corral since I expected to be slow. It took about 20 to 30 minutes for everyone to go through the corral but everything seemed organized. I knew this was going to be a very slow race for me. I definitely pushed myself as hard as possible yesterday and had very little gas left in the tank. I planned to walk most of this race but as with other NYRR there are a ton of back of the packers so even at a 15 min/mile mostly walking pace there is high energy and tons of people around. The course is mostly an out and back down grand concourse with a loop through a park at the turnaround point. Grand Concourse is very representative of the vibe of the Bronx and it was fun to run through where I lived for so long. I would have liked to have passed by a few of my favorite spots in the Bronx like my college and the Bronx zoo as opposed to just an out and back on the same street but I understand logistically why this race had to be this way. There were a medium amount of spectators and the ones there were very enthusiastic. The course is rolling hills. Nothing too steep but some of the inclines are rather long. There were mile markers and plenty of aid stations with water and gatorade. The finish goes a bit past the start and ends at Yankee stadium. My finishing time was really slow as expected but I had no issues finishing the race and was expecting to be slow after how hard I pushed myself the day before. There is a long finish shoot where you get your medal and a bag of recovery food. I like that the medal has Bronx very large on it and the ribbon has the names of multiple important Bronx landmarks. It is convenient that you end near the subway station. I then took the train to Manhattan for lunch and then to Queens to see the Mets. This was a great race and a really fun weekend. I hope it works out that I can do this race again.

Roads were definitely in better condition this year than 2 years ago. Getting to the start is very easy with multiple parking options in the area and a subway stop right by race day central.

I didn’t notice photographers along the course as in 2019, but I’m assuming that’s a COVID thing.

This was a nice break from half marathons. Not having to run that last 5k was a welcome change!

The race is super easy to get to via public transport on either Metro North to Yankee Stadium-153rd st or on the 4 or D train to 161st. I took Metro North to Harlem 125th St, then transferred to the 4 to 161. This puts you out basically right in the finish area where the bag check, packet pickup, and great views of Yankee Stadium can be found.

I picked up my packet race morning which was very easy and shirts were picked up at the end of the race so I didn’t have to run with it. The race start is 165th St which was not a long walk at all from packet pickup.

The weather this year was gorgeous. A little warm, but that was mostly the sun. The breeze was nice and cool and the course is mostly shaded. I swear the first 3.5 miles or so were almost entirely up an incline, miles 3.5-5 were flat, and 5 to almost the finish were a mix of decline and incline, but the fina. quarter mile or so to the finish is all downhill.

In usually NYRR style, finishers had a bit of a walk from the finish line back out to where bag check was and there were food trucks you could purchase food from, but the lines were insane. I just stuck with the goodies in the finisher bags that were handed out (the usual water, gatorade, apple, pretzels, and a delicious Honey Stinger bar).

The Bronx 10 Miler is an awesome race. It starts on the Grand Concourse near Yankee Stadium. The course goes out the Grand Concourse, does a couple loops around a couple areas, then back down the Concourse. This course is tougher than it looks. There is a lot of rolling grades, on the concourse, it’s either up or down, never flat. Great finish atmosphere. They always have a great shirt design if you like shirts. One of my favorite races in the NYRR Borough Series.
