The Black River Trail Classic features 31 miles of trail! The first half of the course is smooth and runnable. The second half is hilly and hilly!
The 25K lets you explore most of the hiking and biking trails in the Black River State Forest! This fun, challenging, and often described as hilly course will take you from the Smrekar trails to the Wildcat trails and back. 15.5 ish miles of fun with no repeats or out and backs. Well, we do repeat a 1.9 mile section of the course just before the finish line. You’ll have to run it to find out why!
The 10K is an awesome loop around the outside of the Smrekar trail system. The course starts flat and gradually climbs to the Ridge trail where you can take in stunning views of the surrounding buttes, hills, knolls, and ridges. As you make your way along the ridge you’ll have a fast downhill to the finish line!
The new 85k distance is a combination of ALL the races. You’ll start early and run the 10k course. When you get back from your warmup you’ll head out on the 50k course. All that’s left is to head back up the ridge and finish your 25k cool down. It really is the best way to familiarize yourself with the Black River Trail Classic and become a local legend of the state forest.
Established in 1957, the Black River State Forest encompasses approximately 68,000 acres of public land in Jackson County Wisconsin. The landscape is largely due to glaciation during the Ice Age which is responsible for the formation of the buttes, hills, knolls, ridges and pediments that can be found in the forest. Scenic overlooks can be found at several locations along the trails that run through woodlands and rolling terrain.
