Top flight production as usual by the BAA. New course this year going over the Longfellow Bridge, running along the Charles in Cambridge, looping back past the BU Bridge, then crossing the Mass Ave Bridge to finish up Boylston past the Marathon finish line and then by the Common. Easy course except for the Longfellow Bridge and the small hill by the BU bridge.
Rain downpour at 8 am wasn’t ideal, but otherwise weather cooperated
Nice medal, great after race food and drink; if you participate in the Distance Medley you get the dedicated tent with coffee, bagels, after race beer, etc.

…or at least that is my guess. As a spring or fall race in cooler weather, I might’ve loved it, but on a hot summer day with no shade in miles 3-4 it’s a tough one for someone who doesn’t enjoy hot weather running. (On a cooler day, course difficulty would go down to 1-2 shoes.) In ideal circumstances if I were going to run this again, I’d wait till a week before and check the weather before registering, though it’s a frequent sell out. As a result, the course can also be quite crowded.
Production and support are top notch, though, as one would expect from the BAA. T-shirt, medal, and as a bonus, great race photos, although there’s a hefty fee to download them. Highly recommend doing this as part of the distance medley for additional post-race goodies (BEER) and photo ops. I’m glad I ran it, I just wanted more shade!!

There were lots of runners at this race so great energy. Very well organized from the gear check to the post race goodies. I really enjoyed this race – the course was mostly flat, and there were plenty of aid stations along the route. The weather was perfect – not too hot, and not humid. For me it was fun to run in a new city – I was visiting schools in Boston with my daughter and we did the race together. I hope to have the opportunity to do this one again in the future!
I was injured, so it was tough

I would say to expect it to be hot and humid and you will be fine.
The course is crowded so get to the front if you want to PR. Otherwise, wait until Kenmore Square to make your move.

The course starts in Boston Common and does an out and back on Commonwealth Ave and Beacon St. It finished back in the Commons. Because of the out and back nature, if you can get to the 2 mile mark before the elite runners make it back to the 4 mile mark, you get a ringside seat to the race. Any BAA race is top quality and this one is no exception. This particular year, Shalane Flanagan set an American Record on a Road Course. It was an amazing day.

This is the second race in the Boston Medley. The race starts and finishes in Boston Common. Most of the course is an out and back on Commonwealth St, so you run a good portion of the Marathon finish. The 10k does not turn up Hereford however, you keep straight on Commonwealth to the Commons. You will see the race leaders on the out and back portion of the course and will realize how fast they are going. A great course and well organized race. 2015 race was run in a frog strangling shower, but that only made it more fun.
