This was my first race post Covid-19. I was just happy to find a race that wasn’t canceled. It’s difficult to judge everything based on the precautions that were taken due to the pandemic. Runners were sent out one at a time based on estimated finish time. Everyone wore a mask up until time to start. There were plenty of aid stations on the course and the volunteers wore masks as well.
This was my 10th marathon and the most difficult so far. They advertise rolling hills, but it was much steeper than that. The out and back course destroyed my legs and I struggled mightily in the second half. There is a dirt section around the turn-around area for about a mile. No fans due to the Covid restrictions, but there was a lot to look at. The island was beautiful with the mountains and lake. There was some good wildlife viewing as well. There were plenty of bison (at a safe distance) and a couple antelope as well.
Not a lot of swag except a shirt and bag. The shirt was basic, but comfortable. The medals were really nice. They gave out a small bag at the end with an orange, string cheese and granola bar as well as water.
This is probably not a PR course for most. It was about 3 minutes from being my worst marathon. I was happy to find a live race and they made it happen.
Those are not rolling hills
