I saw the previous review and she has a lot of good points. I was mostly disappointed with the start. It was a cold, windy morning and dozens of people were walking around looking for the start and trying to stay warm. We were wondering if it had been canceled and we didn’t get the email. The RD showed up barely 45 minutes before the start and stuck out the Start flag. There was no electronic timing and no explanation for the lack of organization. So everyone, over 400 finishers, got a gun time. Aid stations had water only. At the finish, I thought there was nothing to eat or drink so I asked someone and they directed me around a large building to the food and water. If I hadn’t asked, I never would have seen it. Why not have someone tell the finishers? Or have a sign?
On the upside, some of the houses we ran by were very visually beautiful or at least interesting, it was cool to run across the Rio Grande, and there was a small wetlands area with some nice birds.
The Art museum downtown was free on Sunday, and Petroglyph Nat’l Monument on the edge of town had a couple of awesome hiking trails. I saw over 20 hot air balloons in the sky to the south of the city Sunday morning. Albuquerque was great! This race, not so much.

I hate to be so negative – but I can’t really find anything good to say about this race. There was no help in finding lodging . Packet pickup was at a Fleet Feet running store. The shirt was a short sleeved gray technical and was just ugly. The medal was just ok and that was it for swag. Communication beforehand was the same email sent out several times and nothing prior to the week before the race. We were to park at a church and walk to the start. I arrived 1 hour before race time. There were several runners already there trying to determine where the race was to start. Forty five minutes before the start – a young lady pulls up and sticks a start flag in a random spot on this road everyone gathered on. There was also no start timing. A guy yelled go and we began to run on the other side of that start flag. There were a few port-a-potties at the start area. The course was ok – part of it was on a dirt trail. We also crossed the Rio Grande river and had a view of the Sandia mountains. The rest of the course was through residential areas and the last part on a busy highway. Water stops were as usual – but there was absolutely no crowd support. At the finish – and this was the biggest shocker of all – there was no water or even a snack – just a medal. You then immediately walked and stood in line for the bus back to parking – I waited about 20 minutes for 1 bus to load and unload. Overall this was one of the worst half’s I have ever run of my 50plus halfs. The entry fee was $80 and I have no idea what that went to. Save your time and money and choose another New Mexico race.
