Fairly flat, all path/streets/concrete. Love the views around Lake Onondaga. Signing up was easy. Rest of production sucked. “Expo” had 2-3 vendors. Got t-shirt but nothing else. Parking was very confusing and not clearly marked. Decent number of water/Gatorade stops but only a few had garbage bags or something to throw away cups besides the ground. Will not run it again.

Moderate size race (about 5000). All paved streets of downtown Syracuse. Moderate hill b/w mile 1.5-3 does take a bit out of you. Few small hills after that though much flatter. Production and schwag very good- nice hoodie! Temp low 30’s with drizzle so not bad. However, I heard last year very snowy and single digit wind chills. Nice to run once, not sure Inwould do again.

Very flat paved course running 2 out and back loops. As advertised, “Lake Effect” weather was a factor. 30 with wind chill down to 17 and snow squall at start of race. Paved course clear of snow and nothing else stuck from snow during race. If weather was better (recognized this is Feb in central NY), this would be great opportunity for PR.
Nice schwag with cool long sleeve tech shirt and medal.

My first Ultra: well organized. Trained doing weekly hills but still not prepared for constant up and down trail. Most of hills small but lots of them, 1 big hill around mile 21. All added up to about 3000 ft elevation change and very sore quads. Aid stations were themed, fun, lots of food, basically fabulous, about every 4-5 miles. Since around a lake, scenery was very nice. Despite above, really enjoyed running the race.

Net 240 foot decline. Absolutely gorgeous scenery run along river, creek and canal system. First 5-6 miles mostly street/pavement, rest gravel/dirt trail, some single, some double track, not technical at all. Weather can be a bit warm but very much potential PR race. Lots of support throughout race.

Well run Half by Vacation Races group. Somewhat hilly trail race at altitude and part of Grizzly Double (with Grand Tetons half 1 week before) so not a great race to PR in. Not terribly technical but very rocky from around miles 8-11 so had to pay attention. Great scenery through woods, next to creek and thankfully no bears!

Fairly flat, mostly path/road with last 4 mi on dirt road with fantastic view of Tetons through finish line. Well run by Vacation Race group. Only challenge was running at altitude (6500 feet) and ran as part of Grizzly Double (Yellowstone Half following week) so did not attempt as PR. Hard to argue with location.

Half marathon on D&L trail follows Lehigh River. Mostly gravel/cinder trail. Very flat! This year they switched direction now going from Slatington to Northampton (prior years opposite direction with big wind in your face). In November so generally cool (30’s-40’s). Well run by staff/volunteers. Very nice tech shirt and lots of food at finish. Very nice course to PR on.

4th time running this race. Beautiful course starting and ending in downtown Jim Thorpe, PA. Mostly single track trail with roots, rocks, etc. A bit of everything: starts and ends on streets, mostly trail, some grass and cinder around lake. First approx 4 mi are gradual uphill. Good news, last 4 miles all downhill! Usually around 4th of July weekend so can be very warm. Lucky this year it rained, cool 65 degrees. Well run race that benefits local churches.

They only talk about 2 big hills at 5 and 22 miles but beware all the “rolling hills” in between. Although realistic from start that this is not a race to PR in, it was still the toughest marathon I’ve run (out of 7)- a strong constant headwind didn’t help either.
